Balfour Beatty’s Engineering Construction business has been honoured at the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) awards ceremony. Having obtained its fifteenth consecutive Gold Award, Balfour Beatty has received the prestigious Order of Distinction. As part of its submission, Balfour Beatty highlighted that over an 11 year period, 25 projects and 2.5 million work hours were completed with no reportable injuries.

Balfour Beatty’s 30 year involvement at Sellafield continues with the award of a further three new projects. These will all be subject to the same stringent safety protocols that have been recognised by RoSPA. The Balfour Beatty delivery teams will adhere to their many initiatives to improve safety, and ensure its strong safety culture is implemented throughout the entire life cycle of the project.

Julia Small, RoSPA’s head of awards and events, said: “To win an award at such a highly-regarded event as the RoSPA Awards is a great achievement for our winners. It recognises their commitment to maintaining an excellent health and safety record and raises the bar for other organisations to aspire to. We offer them our congratulations.

Simon Lafferty, Managing Director of Balfour Beatty’s Engineering Construction business, said: “I am delighted we have received the Order of Distinction. Safety is, and always will be Balfour Beatty’s number one priority – it’s our license to operate.  We work hard to ensure we engage our workforce in all aspects of safety to remove the risk of harm on our sites.”
